Visual Roof Inspection Case Study: Next Green Wave
Find Out How Our Visual Roof Inspection Uncovered Over 1,800 Defects
In August of 2019, Roof Consulting Services, Inc was contacted by commercial cannabis manufacturing company, Next Green Wave, to visually inspect a metal panel roof system on one of their production facilities in Coalinga, California.
Since the roof’s installation in 2018, leaks had continuously interrupted Next Green Wave’s interior business operations. Numerous repairs had been completed by the installing contractor, but once one leak was resolved, another would appear right afterwards.
With constant leakage and a reactive contractor who only responded to damages as they occurred, Green Wave wasn’t sure what to do. Then they got in touch with RCS.
RCS conducted a visual inspection on September 17, 2019.
During our inspection, we noted a total of 17 deficient condition types, which were observed at a total of 1,806 different locations.
The most common issues we identified include:
Panels were substantially dented during the original installation, creating creases and small holes in the metal. Rather than correctly disposing of and replacing the damaged panels, the installing contractor had “repaired” these areas with sealant.
Due to the extent of the damage, repair was deemed non-justifiable. We worked with the client to obtain fair bids from reputable contractors to install a retrofit single-ply assembly.
Although RCS was not able to offer an approach to repair the system, the client was able to fully address ongoing roof issues, minimize business disruption, and secure peace of mind. Best of all, by working with RCS to develop plans, they received impartial bids from roofing contractors they could count on.
